About Siyabonga

Siyabonga Mahlaba is a South African, final year BA in Fine Arts student at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is a young and upcoming artist who hails from the small town, Bethlehem, in the Free State province. His medium is photography, and his subject matter is mainly architectural photography, which was informed by his interest in architecture, his background, and upbringing in Bethlehem. His current focus is the Dutch Reformed Church structures in his hometown and the broader South Africa. In 2019, Mahlaba was a finalist for the Wits Young Artist Award, and winner of UJ/MTN’s Emerging Artists Development Programme. He was also part of a number of group exhibitions: NEWWORK19 (Wits Art Museum), Conversing The Land (UJ Art Gallery), Wits Young Artist Award (The Point of Order), Jack Ginsberg Centre for Book Arts' Samplings (as part of re:Think collective)
